1. Introduction

This policy outlines the procedures and standards of practice for Precision Ear Care's earwax removal services. Our commitment is to provide safe, effective, and patient-centred care, adhering to best practices and relevant regulations.

2. Scope of Service offers

Precision Ear Care professional earwax removal services using micro suction and irrigation/syringing services are provided by trained and qualified practitioners. We do not diagnose or treat underlying ear conditions, and patients will be advised to seek medical attention if such conditions are suspected.

3. Patient Eligibility and Assessment

 * Initial Assessment: Before any procedure, a thorough assessment will be conducted, including a medical history review and otoscopy (examination of the ear canal and eardrum).

 * Contraindications: Treatment may be deferred or declined if contraindications are identified (e.g., recent ear surgery, perforated eardrum, active ear infection, or certain medical conditions). Patients will be advised to consult their GP or an ENT specialist in such cases.

 * Age Restrictions: "Patients must be 18 years or older," or "Patients under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian who provides consent.

4. Consent to Treatment

 * Informed Consent: Before any procedure, informed consent will be obtained from the patient. This includes explaining the procedure, potential benefits, risks (e.g., discomfort, temporary dizziness, tinnitus, minor trauma to the ear canal, or, in rare cases, perforation), alternative options, and the right to withdraw consent at any time.

 * Documentation: Signed consent forms will be obtained and kept as part of the patient's record. For patients under the age of 18, consent will be obtained from a parent or legal guardian.

5. Procedure and Safety Protocols

 * Hygiene and Sterilisation: All instruments used will be sterilised or single-use, and strict hygiene protocols will be followed to prevent cross-contamination.

 * Practitioner Competency: All practitioners performing earwax removal are trained, qualified, and hold relevant certifications.

 * Patient Comfort and Safety: The procedure will be performed with utmost care, prioritising patient comfort and safety. Regular checks will be made with the patient throughout the procedure.

 * Managing Adverse Reactions: Practitioners are trained to identify and manage potential adverse reactions during or after the procedure. In the event of a significant adverse reaction, appropriate medical assistance will be sought immediately.

6. Aftercare and Follow-up

 * Post-Procedure Advice: Patients will receive clear aftercare instructions, including advice on managing any minor discomfort and when to seek further medical attention.

8. Complaints Procedure
